Young family needs assistance
Donation protected
Hi, I am Barb, a friend of Jennifer's (I will call her Jenn going forward). I have known, Jenn, for about 5 years now and watched as she and her husband, Troy started their family. Their son was born in 2014 and and cute little daughter in 2016.
In 2012, Jenn was diagnosed with Chiari's disease and had a shunt put in her brain to help relieve her of the cranial pressure caused by the in ability of her body to release the water within the brain. All went well until this past year when this particular shunt was causing excessive side effects, one major issue was the drawing of brain matter into her spinal column and causing partial inability to function with her arms and legs. To relieve her of this problem and reverse the issue the old shunt was removed and a new one inserted in September 2018. There were many complications with her body rejecting the new shunt. It was removed and an external drain was used to relieve pressure and in the long run causing pressure on her optic nerves which required emergency surgery and now partial blindness in her left eye and total blindness in her right eye. A new shunt was inserted on the other side of her head in early January 2019 and it seems to now be functioning as expected.
Jenn has been in and out of the hospital continually from September to January. The latest hospital stay was almost 3 weeks long in ICU. A friend, Ron was helping them a couple days a week through November, but then was needed by his own family. I have been helping out for 3 weeks, but her husband, Troy stepped down from his managerial position as a full time pharmacist to a part time position hoping that would help with her not being able to drive or fully take care of the kids. He has now taken full disability from his positon for the next 3 months to help with her recovery. Due to her blindness, Jenn is not capable of maintaining her household or fully care for the kids, as she is unable to drive or cook. She is not permitted to lift them because of the strain it puts on her carotid arteries that lead to the brain.
Needless to say, this has put the family under undue strain to meet their financial responsibilities, in addition to over $80,000 in uncovered medical expenses. If you can find in your hearts to help them out, even a small donation duplicated a 100 times helps to create a means to an end. This family can use help in many ways. If you live nearby in the Escondido, CA area they need meals, carpooling, help getting to doctors and house upkeep.
