Contrary to rumor or speculations, Metro Dining Delivery is still here!

Metro Dining Delivery will be celebrating its 17th year anniversary in August! Over the past 17 years, we've withstood the influx of multiple different delivery services and thrived through them all! This is because we pride ourselves on the quality of service that we provide to our customers. So many times we heard that even non-affiliated restaurants had turned away other 3rd party delivery services and would tell them, “If our customers want it delivered they can call Metro Dining Delivery!”, which is a testament to the quality of our service.

Even when the national delivery services first arrived in Lincoln (you know their names) it didn't impact our business that much. What did impact us severely was when COVID-19 hit and the lockdowns and then the never-ending restriction on the restaurants. These restrictions hurt restaurants so much (many never recovered and closed) that they were scrambling to get revenue in their door anyway possible (and we can't blame them) so they all caved and signed up with these national delivery services finally giving them a foothold in Lincoln.

This took so much business away from us as these national delivery services have an unfair advantage over our little locally-owned delivery service because they are able to automatically add an “order now” link directly to the restaurant's Google Maps listing. The only way that a link to Metro Dining Delivery's website can be added to a restaurant's Google listing is for the restaurant owner/manager to do it manually, and only a fraction of our affiliate restaurants have done this so far.

I kept running the business as usual expecting that business would rebound a bit back to what it was before COVID-19 had hit the nation, but it never did and I racked up quite a bit of debt keeping things going as before. Then on top of all that, the difficulty in finding drivers (or quality drivers) hit me even more as it just seemed nobody wanted to work! UGH.

A little over a year ago I lost one of my best (and basically last) drivers Beth to a job she couldn't refuse! So, for the last year, Metro Dining Delivery has been a one-man show with me doing it all! Yup! When you order and you get a response it's really me! I'm the one calling all the orders in, picking them up and delivering them to your door! :) Restaurants and customers have seen my smiling face at their doors many times this last year and will continue to see my smiling face at their doors many times more!

I do plan on getting a couple more drivers on board soon to help out over the dinner rush, as many of you know when I get too many orders placed at once it forces me to turn off the forms until I can get somewhat caught up. So, one or two drivers for two to three hours a night is all I'll need for now. Things seem to be turning and who knows what the future holds but I'm optimistic. :)

As I stated above I did rack up quite a bit of debt and am working hard at getting it paid off, but if you want to throw a couple of bucks this way to help out a struggling locally-owned business you'd be my biggest hero!
