First and foremost, from my family and I to you and your family, thank you for your time to stop by and read about this campaign. My name is Allen and my wife’s name is Tyler, as most of you know. This campaign has a bold goal with a very worthy purpose we believe. The purpose of this campaign is to raise money for the cost of the adoption of our nephew and to assist with the associated fees. To benefit our potential donators I would like to summarize the sequence of events that lead us to where we are today.
On January 15th of this year my sister Danielle Hudson was killed in a traffic accident in Greenville, South Carolina. It is presumed based on medical history and witness statements that my sister experienced a seizure while driving. The medical condition inevitably lead to my sister’s unconsciousness and inability to control the vehicle she was driving while having a seizure. My sister’s vehicle left the roadway, crossed a grass median, crossed oncoming traffic, and struck a tree. With a broken heart, I say, it was there that my beautiful sister left her earthly existence.
My sister’s son, Demetrious Donaldson, was at our home at the time of incident. This innocent child lost his mother. They both intended to do so much with the great amount of time they saw before themselves at their young ages. Fast forward to today, my wife and I have been granted temporary custody of the child. Temporary is a very general term in these circumstances and could mean one month or six years. Temporary custody in this specific circumstance is a placement of the child until a Guardian ad Litem can conclude an investigation. The Guardian ad Litem’s purpose is to investigate, with the benefit of the child in mind, to determine the best solution for the child and their placement. My wife and I had our meeting with the Guardian ad Litem recently. We feel confident in the Lord’s plan and will remain in prayer about the circumstances of the custody forward.
This entire situation has been ever overwhelming. We have been completely surprised by the events of this year. The loss of my sister has been the most unfortunate and sad time of my life personally. Danielle raised me and was a mom, as well as, a sister.
We are coming to you all, our friends. This is a true time of need for us. We are humbling ourselves and requesting your assistance. We are looking at coming attorney fees with an unforeseeable end. Additionally, we will eventually enter an appeal for full adoption and hopefully an adoption of the child. Our attorney has reported that the adoption itself will cost near ten thousand dollars. The ten thousand dollars will not include current lawyers fees until the time that we reach that process.
This is a process that we need to plan for ahead of time. We need to be prepared proactively instead of reactively. This will benefit the child because when the time arises we will be able to move forward.
Our efforts will go beyond this campaign. We will have future fundraising events because we want to help ourselves as much as we can. In addition to this donation campaign, my wife and I have both picked up part time jobs and have recently progressed our furniture building business, all of which will have proceeds going towards these legal fees.
Many of you all know that my wife has been competing in karate tournaments for over fifteen years with much success. When Danielle was taken from us, Tyler flew home from the world championship team trials to be with myself and Demetrious instead of competing for her spot to go to the world championships. She has since given up competing this year in order to use any money that would have been spent in that regard towards our legal/adoption fees. Though we have made many sacrifices since we have been awarded temporary custody, we feel honored and would not have it any other way. We also feel very confident that Danielle would want Demetrious to grow up in our loving home if she couldn't be the one to raise him. Demetrious being in our home is the safest and most nurturing atmosphere that could be offered to him since my sister passed, and we are committed to spending every last dime we have to secure full custody and then an adoption.
Thank you most genuinely to all who have taken the time to read this campaign. If all you can contribute are prayers we are grateful for even that. Happiest of days to you and yours.
