Metastatic breast cancer in the lungs

Hi my name is abby and im starting a fundraiser for my mom Mary Quiroga who was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2022. It has been exactly one year since she was diagnosed. She went through chemo, surgery and radiation. We got horrible news a couple days after thanksgiving of this year that my moms breast cancer has moved to her lungs , lymph nodes, and bones. The cancer is now stage 4. Since it has moved to her lungs it has caused fluid in her lungs making it difficult for her to breathe, severe chest pains, and loss of appetite. It is very possible the cancer has been spreading and the cells werent seen in the ct scans she had in july. So for now on she will only be getting PET scans because they show everything. My moms cancer is very aggressive and fast growing. She will start targeted therapy and be given an infusion once a month to strengthen the bones. The cancer causes the bones to become extremely weak. Her subtypes have changed which the doctors said theyve seen before but it is very uncommon and they dont know the reason for the subtype to change making this cancer a lot more challenging to treat. It has been a tough journey for her having to work and provide for 3 kids as a single mother most of our lives. With insurance not covering full medical bills, treatments, and medications it has been extremely stressful and difficult. She is in so much pain and has had a headache on the right side of her head for about 3 weeks now. We are hoping it hasent spread to her brain. Her pain is almost unbearable she has been having to call off work because of throwing up from the pain of her head ache and that is not likely of my mom she is the strongest person I know and puts up the biggest fights. She still needs to get her brain and spine checked and will schedule an mri asap. She hasent started her new treatment yet and her cancer is growing fast.

Everyone that knows my mom knows she is a fighter. Through everything life has thrown at her she continues to thrive and live through the struggles with a smile. My mom has never caught a break it hurts to see her going through so much pain. With the support of family and friends she has shown that anything is possible. We ask for help, support, and prayers during this hard time for my mom and our family. Anything helps.
