Message Theater Season 2023-2024

Message Theater (one of Lexington Kentucky’s African American Theater companies). Has been a part of the city's Theater community since 1987.

Mission:

Bridge the cultural gap in the community. Giving opportunities for aspiring performing artists of color to express themselves culturally.

Vision:

Increase equity and inclusion for aspiring actors, stage managers, lighting, sound and set designers by providing opportunities for them to thrive.

Value:

Provide quality cultural productions for aspiring performing artists and audiences allowing them not only to perform stories that are culturally relevant, but for audiences to see stories with people that represent them.

We have proudly been working closely with some of the local theater companies to increase diversity on stage (Studio Players, Bluegrass Theater Guild, BCTC, Antagonist Players, Athens West, Distilled Theater) and especially The Lyric Theater. We have agreed to provide two shows a year at The Lyric Theater.

In our last season, we produced 12 Angry Men (Reginald Rose). I dedicate this ride: The making of Isaac Murphy (Frank X Walker) and American Son (Christopher Demos-Brown) (co-production with The Bluegrass Theater Guild). We considered the season a success in that there were close to 1000 in attendance at all three shows. This was an increase from the previous year of a little over 500 for the season.
