I never imagined I’d be in the position to write something like this, but a recent car accident—through no fault of my own—has left my family without a vehicle, and we’re truly struggling as a result.

The car we lost was our only means of transportation. We rely on it every single day—for school drop-offs and pick-ups for my siblings, getting to and from work, buying groceries, attending medical appointments, and everything in between. We recently had to move further away from our school and workplace, and unfortunately, we now live in an area with no access to reliable public transport. Being without a car has made daily life incredibly difficult and overwhelming.

What makes this even harder is that I only just bought this car in December after passing my driver’s test in October—my first and only attempt. I am a very safe driver; I follow road rules and don’t speed. I was so proud to have saved up for it entirely on my own. The week prior to the accident I was working long hours—sometimes 50 hours a week.. I was so close to finally getting caught up on payments and was close to fully paying it off when the accident happened, on Mother’s Day night of all times. It was such a heartbreaking moment to lose something I’d worked so hard for, just when I was starting to feel some stability. I feel as though I have lost my independence and freedom I worked so hard to gain.

To make things worse, insurance isn’t covering the full costs. We’ve been told we still need to pay $1,300 out of pocket, as well as an increase of cost for my insurance, money we simply don’t have right now. It’s been a huge financial and emotional setback, causing further stress on myself and my family.

I’m doing everything I can to stay strong and hopeful, but the reality is, we simply can’t afford to replace our car right now. That’s why I’ve created this GoFundMe. Any contribution—no matter how small—will help us work toward getting a safe and reliable vehicle again. Your support would mean the absolute world to us.
