I am a first-year teacher at a Title I school in Baltimore, MD. My classroom will be a safe, nurturing space for my kids. This can look like a student finding their voice. This can look like a student having, maybe for the first time, a positive relationship with a teacher. This can look like a student knowing that they are physically safe when they step into my classroom.
We all know that education is power. Education is liberation. Education is transformation. Education is an oasis in an otherwise deserted, dispossessed place.
Help me achieve this for my 100 or so kids. I’m asking for what amounts to $20 per child for the entire year. You're investing in a child's life. You're investing in Baltimore.
- School supplies (e.g. binders). Poverty is real, and many of my students simply cannot afford these supplies on their own!
- Snacks. You don't learn well if you're hungry! (Food insecurity affects concentration, memory, mood, and motor skills.)
- Posters. These walls will not remain barren!
- And so much more. Additional resources will be added after I better get to know the needs of my students!
