Hi! My name is Mirana Brown and I am currently volunteering in Meru District Hospital located in Arusha, Tanzania. My first day was 6/18/24 in the physiotherapy department. Since my start date, I have seen many things such as hand sanitizer being used as a form of sterilization, gloves used as drainage bags and tourniquets, as well as many procedures give without local antiseptic or anesthesia. Gloves, mask, gauze, and other medical necessity are a rarity to be found. The physiotherapy department has minimal treatment options for physical therapy. So in turn, I am starting a Go Fund Me for the length of my trip with plans of donating the money raised for supplies like gloves, alcohol pads, PEMF therapy machine, or hand sanitizer. Anything helps, 500 USD = 1.3 million in TZN shillings, to put things in perspective. So whatever you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated by the people of Meru District Hospital.
