Merry's Heart

In July 2019, my life was pretty normal. Working full time as a registered nurse, spending time with my family, making plans for my future. Then in August my whole world changed.  I went to a cardiologist at the recommendation of my gastroenterologist.  My EKG was severely abnormal and the doctor ordered a ton of tests.  I didn't make it that far. August 7, 2019 I suffered a heart attack,  though I would learn later it was not a traditional attack caused by blockages.  I have a genetic condition called obstructive apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  Since my diagnosis I have suffered 3 more "heart attacks". My heart is overworked which causes oxygen deprivation which causes the ischemia.  After a week inpatient at University of  Iowa hospitals and Clinics,  they told me I would need surgery to repair my left ventricle and possibly a heart transplant down the road but that they could not perform the surgery.  They sent me to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,  Minnesota  where I met Dr. Geske and Dr. Schaff. Dr. Schaff will be performing open heart surgery, Apical Myectomy  February 28th. With this condition, my health has deteriorated quickly and I have not been able to work since the beginning of January.  My job is the primary income in my home so this has caused a huge blow to our finances. I don't ask for help easily, in fact  I'm usually the one giving what ever I have to help others. But I need help! The money raised would help out with rent for our home, utilities, travel expenses to and from Mayo and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and cost of the surgery not covered by insurance.
