Hello, my name is Carly Fritsch and I am the Junior Activities Co-Ordinator of Mermaid Beach Surf Club.
One of our brave U14 Nippers, Jack Muller has recently been informed that his cancer has returned. Sadly, he now faces tackling this disease once again, after overcoming it, just shy of 12 months ago.
Jack is an incredible young man who loves and excels in sport but more importantly is strong, caring and resilient.
Last year Jack helped his Mermaid Beach Surf Club Cameron relay team win Gold at the Australian Titles and Bronze in the beach relay after overcoming spinal cancer. He then helped his Broadbeach Cats AFL team win the premiership flag in September this year.
When Jack, his mother, Olivia and his younger brother Archie were recently told that Jack’s cancer had returned in the form of two spinal tumors, Jack’s response to accepting support from his Club family was that he also wanted to support other children battling cancer at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. This response is typical of the Jack we have come to know and love, who recently achieved his Surf Rescue Certificate so that he could patrol the beaches and give back to his community.
Now it is our time to show Jack and his family that we are here to help, and support them as they tackle this next challenge, whilst also helping Jack to assist other children just like him, going through a difficult time.
We will be raising money at our Club’s Community Day Lapathon to help Jack with his rehabilitation and to pledge a donation to help others who are bravely fighting cancer.
We want to help take some of the financial burden off Jack and his family so they can focus their energy on fighting this awful disease.
You can help by registering for the Lapathon by way of a $5 entry fee, and then collecting sponsors to support you as you complete the Lapathon course in the required timeframe. Sponsors can pledge a set amount for you, or sponsor you on a per lap basis in order to challenge you to try and achieve the most laps that you can, while helping to support Jack and his family.
All money raised by registrations, donations and sponsorships will go towards Jack and his family as well as to the Pediatric Oncology Ward at QCH, per Jack’s lovely request.
If you would like to donate to this cause, outside of the Lapathon, any donation of any kind, large or small is very much appreciated.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We are so grateful to be apart of a Club that supports each other and together, we know we can help make a difference for our Jack.
