If you’re reading this, you know and love Merlyn Jarrett, physician’s assistant to Drs. Scheiner and Schaefer of Midtown Medical Associates (now part of NYU Langone). For 32 years, Merlyn was an essential part of all our healthcare–always ready to greet you with her warm smile, wonderful laugh, and kind personality. To Merlyn, her patients were more than just names on a chart. Those of us who she cared for held a place in her heart because her job was her life.
In May of 2021, Merlyn’s life changed abruptly when she was hit by a car while walking across Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn. The accident caused severe damage to both feet and ankles beyond typical fractures, preventing Merlyn from going to work. She has been through two major surgeries, and numerous hospital stays to repair and rebuild her achilles, feet, and ankles and has been home ridden for most of the past 18 months. Because of this, she has lost her position with NYU, exhausted her disability insurance claim, run through her savings, and is now in arrears with her mortgage and day-to-day living expenses.
Merlyn needs our help. Anything you can donate to help her right now while she maneuvers the complexities of attorneys, insurance claims, pending social security, and ongoing physical therapy would be a small payback for the years of kindnesses that she has bestowed on all of us.
