Merlin Needs Help: A Cardiology Appointment for our Top Cat!

Hi, I’m Chase Holiday from Furball Fables. For over a decade, my rescue cats and I have been sharing the joy of cats through our videos on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

Recently, one of my furballs, Merlin, had a medical emergency. He couldn’t stand, began twitching, and was breathing heavily. We rushed to the vet, not our regular vet who knows Merlin well. This Vet suspected a blood clot had traveled to his brain and suggested either seeing a cardiologist or saying goodbye. However, after bringing Merlin home, he surprisingly recovered and acted like his usual self.

Two days later, he had a similar episode. This time, our regular vet was back, and we stayed home. After an hour, Merlin recovered again and was very hungry, just like the first incident.

I reached out to our social media communities for advice, unsure if the stress of a cardiology appointment would be too much for a 17-year-old cat. The response was incredible—so many people shared stories and advice. Most recommended seeing the cardiologist, and a few suggested it might be diabetes-related. After checking his glucose levels, I discovered they were very low, so I stopped all insulin and got him stabilized.

We’ve scheduled an urgent cardiology appointment for October 23, which costs $1,200, plus any follow-ups or treatments. Merlin has heart issues, diabetes, and allergies, which makes him expensive to care for. I’ve set aside $400, but I need help raising an additional $900 to cover the cost.

Merlin is a 17-year-old blue point Siamese and my closest companion. Despite his health challenges, his spirit remains strong, and I want to give him the best chance at more time with us.
