To honor our mother's, Merle Rose, memory and legacy, we have established a scholarship in her name. People's thoughts and expressions since she died in April 2023 have moved us to create this scholarship in her memory. With Princeton High School we have established an annual Merle Rose Memorial Foundation Scholarship, which will be presented to a student to help them pursue post- secondary education. Mrs. Rose was the kind of teacher who changed students’ lives. She saw qualities and talents in the students and their writing that others didn’t see. Many of her students have gone on to become professional writers —or at the very least, credit her with teaching them how to write. Mrs. Rose was especially drawn to students she saw as vulnerable; she identified with these students, having felt vulnerable and unsupported herself growing up. She was able to attend Temple University because she received a full scholarship, supported by scholarships like the one we are creating in her memory.
To provide an initial annual award of $1,000, intended to commence graduation May 2024, we will need an investment of $25,000 deposited into a professionally managed fund. As the fund grows, we hope to be able to award larger gifts or recognize multiple awardees.
A contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated.
With gratitude,
Amanda & Abigail Rose
