My mother is an angel.
From an early age she dedicated her time and efforts to providing comfort to others. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1975 so she could care for the needs of others.
She worked as an RN at in a large Tampa Bay area hospital for a while, then went on to be a home health nurse providing care for patients in their homes.
Right now, my mother is in need of some comfort herself. At the start of 2017, she received a breast cancer diagnosis. Although it was caught very early, she underwent surgery to remove the cancer, followed by radiation and ongoing medication to help prevent re-occurrence. It was a six month struggle that she was able to overcome with her enormous willpower, unshakable faith, an excellent medical team, as well as support from family members and friends.
During Christmas of 2017, she received even more devastating news: a diagnosis of late stage pancreatic cancer with metastasis to the liver. Having gone completely undetected, it is very likely that this new diagnosis began well before the breast cancer ordeal. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy, and is being followed by an excellent medical team at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
My mother has lived through more than one person may ever experience in their life time, but she carries on, thanks to her unshakable faith in God and the support of her family and friends. . She goes the route of the silent warrior, preferring to give those close to her a smile and reassurance.
My mother is a warrior. She is currently working full time, and many of the days she has off are spend in hospitals and doctor's offices. Despite all of this, she still finds time to do one of the things she enjoys the most: spend time in her garden.
Her cancer treatment bills have been accumulating rapidly after 6 months of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, scans, tests, and doctor’s visits. It is with this in mind that we are asking for your help by donating whatever you can to help defray the cost of her treatment. No gift will be too small. All will be greatly appreciated.
