Merediths back recovery journey

Donation protected
On December 13th, I was trying to move a metal crate thing. It was probably about 3-400 pounds. When I picked it up, my back snapped. I was rushed to the er in franklinton la. They couldn’t treat my injuries there. I was then rushed by ambulance to lakeview hospital in Covington. After multiple ct scans, mris, and X-rays, it was determined that my L4 and L5 discs in my spine were broken. They started treating me for that with pain medicines and steroids. During a physical therapy session on the 18th, I fainted from pain and landed on my back. I ended up hurting my C5, C5, and C 6 discs as well. A couple are cracked and they are all bulging. After that fall, I completely lost movement in my left leg, and lost all control of my bladder and bowels. After more scans, they decided that my sciatic nerve was badly damaged and some nerves under my L5 and L6 were being crushed. Physical therapy was put to a halt and I was put on bed rest on multiple meds for pain, blood clot preventatives, meds to control my Heart rate, anxiety meds, and insulin because the stress was making my blood sugar spike into the 400s. I’ve been having intense spasms in my spine every few hours which are extremely painful, still cannot move my leg at all, and still cannot control my bladder or bowels. I missed Christmas and New Years with my family and son and spent it alone in the hospital due to Covid visitation restrictions. Missing Christmas with my son hurt more than anything. Recently, Medicaid decided that I have been in the hospital for too long and they want to transfer me to a rehab facility. At the rehab facility, they are going to continue my bed rest, pain management, steroids, and diabetes control until they determine I’m ready to start trying to regain strength in my leg and try to use a walker. If all goes wrong, I’m looking at surgery. But hopefully my body will pull through and heal so that I don’t have to go through that. For the rehab facility, I need some things like comfy clothes, diapers, snacks, hygiene products and shower stuff, things to occupy my mind like cross stitching kits and books, money for my freestyle libre copay (it’s a blood sugar monitor that I scan with my phone) , a large water bottle, money to pay my phone bill, money to order food because the hospital food is not good, money to pay off the 90 dollar walker provided by Medicaid, and I am going to have a decently large hospital and rehab bill to face later on, and money to just be able to save for stuff and bills when I get home because I’m not going to be able to work. Also, my bills outside the hospital haven’t disappeared so I still have to pay those as well. I’d like to get back into my passion of doing acrylic nails to make some money when I get out of here, but ill need to buy the supplies and it’ll take a while to build up a clientele since I don’t know anyone where I live. I will be at the rehab facility for a month or so it’s looking like. The clothes that I already own are too tight and form fitting. I need some loose things like sweat shirts, shorts, sweat pants. I hate to impose so much stress on my family right after Christmas time. This is why I’m reaching out to the community for help. It’s scary to be 23 and dealing with all of these problems. I’m trying my best to stay strong. But with depression and anxiety it’s very hard. I’ve been trying not to stress too much, but I have a problem with overthinking and worrying about the future. I don’t have a steady support system other than my parents and grandparents which makes it all the harder. I’m doing this alone mainly and learning how to adapt to that. I know I’ll come out stronger in the end, but keeping that mind set is difficult. Thank you for reading this far into my story. If you aren’t able to help financially, all I ask is that you keep me in your prayers. I need God more than anything right now. Thank you. Jan 1 update: I’m in the rehab hospital January 3rd accident: I dropped A carrot during lunch. I was in my wheelchair and bent down to pick it up. As I bent down my wheelchair flipped and I slammed my right knee onto the ground, my head into the wall, and it felt like I hurt my back worse. The nurses called an ambulance and I was transported back to Lakeview emergency room where they did some CT scans and x-rays. The ultimate result is that I have a concussion, I strained the thoracic muscles in my back, and I have a sprained ankle. I just can’t seem to catch a break. Jan 7 update: The rehab keeps extending my stay here, and yesterday talked about sending me to a nursing home when I get out of here. I still can’t move my left leg, I still don’t have control of my bladder or bowels, my neck is starting to hurt a lot worse because they’re weaning me off of pain medicine, My back is hurting a hell of a lot worse, I’ve torn a muscle in my right arm so I can’t really lift my arm, and things are just kind of going to shit.
