I'm trying to raise money to provide financial relief for my parents during this difficult time. I'm going to start this story where i feel this downward spiral began and one of the main catalysts as to why i have to post this in the first place. Five years ago my dad was working on foot doing road construction in Madison WI. He was struck by a car going 60 mph, this vehicle was fleeing from police in a no-chase zone. Somehow the unlicensed driver was allowed to drive away from his appointment with his probation officer before being later pursued for a different matter by police. The police as I've stated chased this suspect in a no-chase zone and then shut off his sirens after he saw the clearly marked barricades surrounding the construction zone. We'll never know for sure if the officer was trying to prevent injury a little too late or if he was trying to save his own butt. The entirety of my dad's crew including himself were very aware of the distant sirens and were listening and watching for them ,sadly they thought all was well when the sirens went off and they went back to work. The suspect's car struck my dad at 60 mph flinging his body into the air before he landed in the fresh blacktop they had just laid. He sustained a broken arm of which he has never gained full mobility of even after 3 surgeries, a broken jaw, a broken ankle and 2nd and 3rd degree burns along the entire side of his other arm. The fact that he even survived this incident is a testament to how incredibly strong my father is. He was in the hospital for a while after that, he then came home and his uphill battle continued there. Most of the hospital costs were covered during this time by workman's comp, thankfully. After this though it has been very difficult for them financially and health-wise. My mother has not had health insurance since the time of the accident and my father's medical coverage was workman's comp. My mother went back to work to try and offset these financial trials and many family members have pulled together to try and keep them afloat for these last 5 years. I am incredibly grateful to my brothers and my great Aunt and Uncle for helping this occur. Two years after the accident my father had a heart attack and underwent a triple bypass operation. Again this was another terrifying and difficult time. But you know what, again he got back up. I've never known a more lively persistent man. The long drawn out court proceedings related to the accident finally concluded in the fall of this year. Years ago the outcome would have been way different and shall i say, just. Now days though that isn't the case, three words explain the measly payout my parents received due to multiple people's in-competencies. People who are supposed to 'protect and serve" or rather the newly instated requirement to "uphold the law". Torte Reform Laws. Since the settlement both of my parents are without any form of health insurance. He is still too young to receive medicaid. Anyhow on to the meat of the post as i am trying to condense my often very long writings. Last month, on November 12 it was discovered that my father has Glioblastoma Multiforme, stage 4. It is a highly aggressive, quickly regenerative cancerous brain tumor. He had surgery to remove the bulk of the mass on November 13th. They said they got 98-99% of the tumor and recommended the usual chemo and radiation. They gave him 4 months to live with no treatment, one year with radiation and a year and a half with chemo and radiation. My mother has had to take a leave from work to take care of dad. So far he continues to get better as the swelling in his brain from surgery is still decreasing. He has trouble seeing at times and it gets worse the more tired he gets, he is also a little wobbly at times and so he gets an escort if he wishes to walk out of site. We have been looking far and wide for alternative measures and treatments to help prolong his life and possibly stave off the tumor altogether. We are changing his diet, cutting way way down and eventually cutting out all sugar, focusing on an organic and non gmo ketogenic diet. We almost immediately started giving him many vital supplements that hold a lot of promise in bettering his health, some of which are proven to stop the spread of cancer growth. His supplement load is increasing still. There are other methods we would take advantage of but are so far unable to because of the war on cannabis. We are also trying to implement a safe detox regime for him. We have had an appointment with a Naturopathic Doctor and have over the phone consultation appointments set up with an Integrative Practitioner/Natural Oncologist in Oregon that could work closely with the Naturopathic Doctor on Dad's case. As you may or may not know, naturopathic and homeopathic services, treatments are not covered by insurance. Although in mom and dad's situation it doesn't matter because they don't have coverage anyhow. There are other things we are looking into, possibly even a trip to the Bio-medical center in Mexico could be in the cards. Simply, we are giving it our all. Researching is a daily occurrence. Just this week he has started radiation as they strongly feel they must start something. They will be avoiding chemotherapy for obvious reasons once you get to reading. These allopathic treatments are extremely expensive as i'm sure the trips to and from Lacrosse 5 days a week for 6 weeks will get up there too.
I am calling out to the friends and family of mom and dad, my brothers and i. Luckily dad has way way more friends than i do. This page i originally started just after the accident when i knew they would need some serious help. I wasn't permitted to post it until now. It appears there is no pride in that way for them any longer. Its sad and so hard for them or i to admit that but the breaking point is here. Donate if you can, pray either way. No gesture is too small.
Thank you, Jordan
