We have been rescuing from the sidewalks of the worst parts of NYC for over a decade. On purpose. We go to the direct point of abandonment, or unfortunate birth, or tossed from a car or a window. Just when we think we’ve seen it all, new trauma arises.

We have been managing abandoned animals at “The Drug Dealers House” for years. Sweet kitten Dede, sick Moonbeam, and darling Mama Willow and her 3 newborn babies, born in the nasty abandoned skeleton of a former car.

Not even a week ago, a very friendly cat showed up at the drug house, non-weight-bearing on his front paw. He still yearned to get into our feeders lap, trying to jump up on what we now know is 2 broken legs. What an angel!

We emergency rescued him, raced him to emergency and found out pretty sad news. His right front leg was totally fractured, and all the toes on his left front paw too. He was incredibly swollen, in unfathomable pain, unneutered, not chipped, poor teeth, and despite it all - as kind and loving as one animal

soul could be.

We reached our surgeon who has saved many of our animals in unbelievable pain from rare and complicated issues. She saved them all! We sent her Mercury’s X-rays and she said the magic words - “I CAN FIX THAT!!!”

After drying our tears and arranging transportation, it’s now time to pay for this. This animal has suffered more than any animal should. We see this over and over again. We’d bet so much on the fact that they took him in as a tiny vulnerable kitten, probably given away by a deli worker, never vetted / never fixed him. He started spraying (which doesn’t happen when neutered), then they threw him out. 100% not his fault and never their fault like so many others. As ever, it’s always the PEOPLE.

This fundraiser is to raise money to pay for his surgery to fix his broken right leg, surgically splint his left foot, a neuter, maybe a dental, whatever he needs. We are also $12,000 in debt from helping so many other serious cases, as because we rescue is such busted areas, our rescue animals can cost thousands. Cider, Koji, Santorini, Henny…all recently tossed out animals who we stood up to help.

It’s a tough time as people are holding their wallets close. The future is uncertain, rocky and unpredictable. We see that donations are lower and slower than ever. But - the animals continue to be abandoned and the need is not only not stopping, it’s worsening.
