Help Mercedes to beat the Cancer

Hello, my name is Mercedes Belandria but my friends and family call me “Mechi”.

I am 64 years old and I’m from Venezuela, where I worked over 25 years as a teacher of hundreds of kids in the early years. Like any hardworking and loving mom, I am devoted to my 3 children and 2 grandchildren who are the ones I love the most.

Recently, I have been diagnosed with a metastatic Brain Tumor which is affecting my motor skills and nervous system. I went through a Gamma Knife radiosurgery the past Nov 10th, which is showing very favourable results. A few days after the surgery I was feeling unwell and I was admitted to the Advent Hospital in Orlando, Florida; where I’m still recovering from the radiosurgery.

Unfortunately, while the doctors were running routine tests, new findings arose, indicating there are more cancerous lesions on other parts of my body. Very expensive studies need to be done in order to find where the main tumor is coming from and the possible treatments are beyond unaffordable for me and my children, who have already covered the radiosurgery with tremendous sacrifice.

I do believe in God and I have been trying to be very optimistic and courageous in this process but without your help, it will be impossible for me and my family to afford all the expenses that will come in order to fight this disease. I want to be there for my children. I want to be there for my grandchildren. I want to live.

Hola, mi nombre es Mercedes Belandria pero mis amigos y familiares me llaman “Mechi”. Tengo 64 años y soy de Venezuela, donde trabajé más de 25 años como maestra de educación primaria de cientos de niños. Como cualquier madre trabajadora y cariñosa, mi vida se dedica a mis 3 hijos y 2 nietos, a los que más amo.

Recientemente, me diagnosticaron un tumor cerebral metastásico que está afectando mis habilidades motoras y mi sistema nervioso. Pasé por una radiocirugía con bisturí de rayos gamma el pasado 10 de noviembre, que está mostrando resultados muy favorables. Unos días después de la cirugía me sentí mal y fui admitida en el Advent Hospital en Orlando, Florida; donde todavía me estoy recuperando de la radiocirugía.

Desafortunadamente, mientras los médicos realizaban pruebas de rutina, surgieron nuevos hallazgos que indican más lesiones cancerosas en otras partes de mi cuerpo. 

Naturalmente, se necesitan hacer estudios muy costosos para encontrar de dónde viene el tumor principal y los posibles tratamientos son más que inasequibles para mí y mis hijos, que ya han cubierto la radiocirugía con un tremendo sacrificio.

Soy fiel creyente en Dios y he estado tratando de mantenerme optimista y valiente en este proceso, pero sin tu ayuda, será imposible para mí y mi familia pagar todos los gastos que vendrán para combatir esta enfermedad. Quiero estar ahí para mis hijos. Quiero estar ahí para mis nietos. Quiero vivir.
