On May 30, 2020, Mercedes Amaya succumbed to Covid19, leaving behind a daughter Mercedes, a son Adolfo and a grandson Kyle. Her son and daughter are currently hospitalized with Covid19 and pneumonia.

Throughout her adult life, Mercedes was a tower of strength to her immediate family. Her deep religious faith gave her the courage to confront and/or overcome the considerable financial and personal challenges that evolved during her lifetime. Now, the shocking and sudden loss of the mother and grandmother who held this family together – who always knew what to do during a crisis – has already taken an emotional and financial toll on her family. And this is just the beginning.

Mercedes was not only loved and respected by her family, but also the people she worked with for more than 20 years. In many ways, the small nonprofit organization she worked for functioned as another close-knit family, and Mercedes was one of the most important members. Her consistently high standards and dedication to producing high-quality work became the hallmarks of her career. When more sophisticated technology emerged on the horizon, Mercedes always found the time and energy to incorporate these new products into her work environment in order for the organization to keep up to date and competitive with other groups in their field.

The sudden loss of Mercedes Amaya will be felt by everyone whose lives she influenced with her high standards and personal responsibility to making the world around her a better place. It also reminds us of the importance of cherishing time with loved ones and providing support in times of need.
