Mercede's Hat Shop

Mercede's Hat Shop is a small nonprofit that was started in honor of Mercede Carmichael, who lost her life to childhood cancer at the age of nine. She loved to pass out hats and gifts to the other children when she was in the hospital and she was usually seen wearing a bright colored hat with a big flower on it. Hats brought her confidence back after she lost her hair from chemo. So when trying to figure out the best way to honor her while helping other children who are fighting cancer, hats were the first thing we thought of. Last year on Mercede's birthday we took a hat shop full of cute, bright hats to the children's hospital where she fought cancer so that other children fighting cancer can choose a few hats on the day they loose their hair from chemo. Today we found out that all the money in her nonprofit account was stolen on April 22, Mercede's 13th birthday. Our hearts are broken that someone would take the money that is meant to bring comfort to these amazing kids.
