Hello everyone! I'm here for Samus Furan, Meownty Hunter - Sammy or Sami for short.
A couple of weeks ago, Sammy started avoiding food and not drinking, so we took her to the emergency vet. We discovered she was in kidney failure - something very uncommon for a 6 year old cat - potentially caused by a urinary tract infection. Her only chance was intensive care at the animal hospital.
She made it through, but when she came home, it was with a grave prognosis. Over the last couple of weeks, she's steadily gotten better with the help of medication and lots of love. We did discover that it was an e-coli UTI, and she was a strong enough little bean to fight it!
We're beyond relieved she made it through, but she didn't make it through unscathed. She's now considered to be in chronic renal failure... the kind of thing that humans get kidney transplants for. However, it's possible for her to still live a long and healthy life with careful care.
The initial stay in a hospital was roughly $4200. She's had two rechecks already to see how she was doing, one of them roughly $250 and another roughly $350.
We've already stretched our resources thin getting Sammy this far. While we will continue doing our best for her however we can, there's going to be a fair amount of upcoming vet visits and bloodwork in order to keep her healthy. And though there's never a good time for a kitty to get sick, this year has already been pretty rough.
We set our goal high to be optimistic, but we'll consider it a success if people are generous enough to help cover the cost of a bag or two of her prescription kidney care food ($75)! If we're fortunate enough to pass our goal, any extra funds will help pay our debt from her hospital stay, which will also help us continue to provide the necessary vet care.
I know most people have their belts pretty tight right now, and I understand if there's not much left to give for our little tortie girl. Any attention or money you can give is very much appreciated, along with your prayers.
