Mentor Teacher Brother, Inc. (MTB) is a mentorship program that targets at-risk male teenagers in the Roseland and West Pullman communities. We have provided individual and group mentoring services to young men in need of guidance for over two decades. The MTB Center is a two-story building that was purchased and rehabbed in 2010 to help young males in the Roseland community achieve academically and live positive standard-setting lives. Our program has taken young men on tours of other colleges at Southern Illinois University, the University of Notre Dame, and Toledo University. Fellowship projects included trips to Great America, Wisconsin Dells, The Chicago museum and local areas. Service projects include feeding the homeless in our communities, a public announcement video for Covid-19 awareness, and participation in local food pantries. This year we will be having our first-ever leadership conference. MTB mentors have years of professional experience and extensive training in various areas including but not limited to legal (attorneys), education (teachers), social service (social workers), and criminal justice (law enforcement). The mission of MTB is to create access to opportunities through collaboration with high schools, youth centers, and local businesses to identify resources and develop action strategies. We conduct group meetings to discuss academics and provide workshops to help our mentees face day-to-day challenges. Our professionals help to conduct workshops, in areas of safety, mental health, career goals, as well as interpersonal skills. Though this is a daunting task, MTB has been able to enjoy a front-seat view of young men transitioning into adulthood. Finally, we tutor our participants in leadership allowing them to have the confidence to help others. We have past and current participants that will testify to our success.
We hope to raise 50,000 dollars to assist with the activities for our 2023 Summer Enrichment Program. Our center needs repairs necessary to keep the building operational this summer. As a thank you, donors will be invited to the MTB Summer cookout in June. website: MTB Website
