My name is Kara, and I need help getting bail for my father, who was wrongfully arrested during a mental health crisis. He is an upstanding citizen; however, he suffers from severe PTSD every day. He is not receiving the help he needs. He is actively being harmed in custody due to the bogus charges, and his mental health is rapidly deteriorating.

Recently, in an attempt to get mental health treatment during a crisis, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department failed to use any de-escalation training and instead threatened arrest. My dad was scared and distraught, and it was communicated to the officers multiple times that he needed mental health treatment, which was ignored. The sheriff's department then proceeded to break out windows in the small camper he lives in and shoot approximately 30 pepper balls into the small confined space. Once he started to exit, five officers dragged him out and down the stairs while he was screaming, "I'm not a criminal, I'm suicidal."

Since being arrested, they have not streamlined mental health treatment. They didn't even bring up a 1077 mental health evaluation at his hearing. He is not a flight risk as he doesn't have a passport and no car. And still, they set bail at $10,000. I will be helping transition him to a treatment facility and housing after ensuring that he attends all court proceedings.

My dad has been a long-time mental health advocate and has even had a social media presence with fun dances and mental health-themed merchandise.

Any money received will go to bail, mental health facility costs, housing, travel from western washington to eastern Washington weekly, replacing any damaged personal items, and legal aid.
