Meeting menstrual hygiene needs is a fundamental issue of human rights, dignity and public health.
1 in 10 girls miss school due to a lack of access to period products, eventually dropping out all together.
Without suitable access to these products many are forced to improvise and use makeshift products which can lead to infection and school absenteeism.
Your contribution will dramatically improve the lives of hundreds of girls in refugee camps on a monthly basis through access to dignified menstrual care.
All contributions benefit Eritrean girls and women experiencing displacement in Sudan, providing them with reusable menstrual hygiene products and granting them the opportunity to work and go to school.
The goal is to provide each girl and woman with 3 pairs of durable and long lasting period panties. These reusable substitutes to traditional menstrual hygiene products can last from one to two years, are simple to clean and can be transported with ease.
*How your contribution will be used and how they will be distributed*
All funds raised will go towards purchasing Thinx brand reusable underwear, otherwise known as period panties. Each pair costs approximately $30 and will be ordered and packaged here in the United States and later transported via airline to Sudan. Once they reach Wad Sharife camp, they will be handed off and distributed by the organizations that are there year round. Some of those organizations are www.eritreacare.org/ and www.unhcr.org/.
I am in no way affiliated or working for or on behalf of these organizations. This is an individual initiative I started as part of my thesis project and I am opening it up to the public in order to reach a wider audience and to allow for more funds to be raised in order to be able to provide at least two pairs of reusable MHM products for each person.
