Mengo Hospital has been providing life-saving care to its community in Uganda for over 100 years. Every day, patients arrive in urgent need—mothers in labour, accident victims, and critically unwell patients who depend on fast, effective emergency care.

At Friends of Mengo Hospital UK, we are fundraising to equip Mengo’s emergency services with two defibrillators—one for the ambulance and one for use within the hospital.

This need has been brought into sharp focus by three of our volunteers—Katie, Meg, and Pippa—a nurse and two medical students who recently spent time working with the ambulance team. They saw first-hand how critical rapid emergency response is, and how the lack of a defibrillator limits what can be done in life-threatening situations.

In cardiac arrest, every second matters. A defibrillator can restore a heartbeat and save a life—but without one, those chances are drastically reduced.
