Hi, my name is Esther Israel, and I am reaching out to you to support a deeply personal cause: helping vulnerable children access education through the Mendlife Global Foundation Nigeria.

I’ve known the founder, Mendie Cassandra Oto-obong (Cassie), for 15 years. We met as undergraduates and bonded over our shared passion for helping children in need. This friendship, built on a mutual love for children, has not only endured but fueled our joint commitment to giving back. Cassie founded Mendlife in 2018 to address the heartbreaking reality that millions of children in Nigeria are deprived of education.

According to UNICEF, 18.5 million children are currently out of school in Nigeria. The decision to pursue an education often becomes a choice between feeding their families or buying school supplies—a choice no child should ever have to make.

In response, Mendlife Global Foundation has been working hard to reverse this trend. In 2018, the foundation helped 50 children return to school, and the numbers grew to 200 and 274 children in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Now, our goal is to help 1,000 children across twelve states: Abuja, Akwa-Ibom, Lagos, Rivers, Abia, Enugu, Delta, Imo, Benue, Kogi, Ondo and Sokoto.

To make this happen, Mendlife works with local religious groups, community leaders, and volunteers to identify children in need and obtain parental consent for school re-enrollment. We also collaborate with local tradespeople to produce school bags and supplies, and we organise distribution events for the children.

Although I am 4,000 miles away, I am determined to contribute by raising funds for this project. Every donation will go toward purchasing school supplies for our upcoming events in Lagos and Aba, scheduled for October 26th and December 14th, 2024.

Recently, on October 12th, 2024, we provided school supplies to 300 children in Mpape community, Abuja, with 60 and 30 children in Kabusa and Kubwa communities, Abuja.
