Two years ago Martin Mendizabal, suffered a stroke at the age of 20. He had to have a blood clot removed from his brain and had his heart valve replaced. After a long journey Martin slowly recovered and returned to school.
In November 2016 Martin developed a blood infection which has caused his heart valve to also become infected. In the last two weeks Martin has suffered two more strokes on both sides of his brain. As a result of these strokes Martin has had no movement in his left arm or leg and has difficulty with vision and speech. Martin was on a ventilator for four days. Doctors are still trying to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the strokes he has suffered but Martin has been unresponsive. Martin is now scheduled for open heart surgery in two weeks once he regains some of his strength.
Martin's parents and older brother have not left his side at the hospital and have spent countless nights sleeping in chairs in the ICU. The Mendizabal family is going to need our support to get through this difficult time.
All funds collected will be given directly to the Mendizabal family to assist them with medical expenses.
