This Piece I created out of a deeply emotional Experience of loosing my brother and not being allowed to express my Grief as it is seen as an act of weakness.
SYNOPSIS….
The inability to show emotions as taught to MEN, by Society who created these Norms and beliefs, cause a lot of the Mental Health issues that MEN in general but African, Latin, and Arabian Men in Particular, suffer from today. Because were we never taught to deal with grief, but only taught to forget or suppress it.
MEN DO(N'T) Cry
Men Do(n’t)Cry, talks about the Vulnerability of Men in almost all African Countries and around the world which they are mandated not to show, we were taught as Children never to allow ourselves to show emotions that shows us weak. They say that it is ok to cry for Joy, but it is not ok to cry when we get hurt Either by heartbreak or the loss of someone dear.
You hear words like “YOU ARE A MAN, AND MEN ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO CRY”
And in the case of loosing someone (DEATH), You hear “KEEP IT IN, YOU ARE A MAN”.
“MEN ARE STRONG AND NEVER WEAK, SO MAN UP.”
And when WE Cry, you hear words like “WHY ARE YOU CRYING? ARE YOU A WOMAN?
The Norm says that only Women are allowed to CRY. Only women are allowed to show weakness.
I believe that Men are emotionally wired just as women, and we should be allowed to show emotions.
The inability to show emotions as taught to MEN, by Society who created these Norms and beliefs, Cause A lot of the mental health issues that MEN in general but African, Latin, and Arabian men in Particular, suffer from today. Because were we never taught to deal with grief, but only taught to forget or suppress it.
This piece explores and exposes the different level of emotions Men are subjected to hiding, thereby creating the awareness that it is ok to show these emotions weather Heartbreak or loss of someone dear or the pain of rejection. Whatever emotion that may be, that its ok to CRY and it does not SHOW US as weak.

REASONS FOR THE FUNDING
- Travel Expense. As all the participating Artist are coming from Different Countries respectively Spain, Germany and Austria, we need Funds to cover for Transportation and Catering during Rehearsals and the Festival where the Premier of Men Do(n’t) Cry will be performed.
- Rehearsal Space. The Rehearsals and Creation of the Project Men Do(n’t) Cry will be in Valencia, Spain. Hence, we need to pay for renting of the Dance Studio Space.
- Remuneration. After the Premier Performance of Men Do(n’t) Cry, the participating Artist are to be paid. Therefore, we are humbly asking for support to cover all the above mentioned expenses.
