Memory Care Expenses for Teresa Bornstein

Hi, we're fundraising on behalf of our mother, Teresa Bornstein. She was diagnosed with dementia in the spring of 2020, and was previously cared for full-time by our father, Michael, who passed away from subcutaneous t-cell lymphoma on August 15th, 2023.

Since that time, we have needed to move her from her home in Waldport, Oregon, into her daughter Stephanie's house in Tigard, OR. Though we love having her close to us, it became apparent quite quickly that she needs a level of care that we are not able to provide at home.

We were lucky enough to find a spot at a memory care facility in the Portland area which we are hopeful will be a good fit for her, but the expenses are daunting. She qualifies for Medicaid, but the approval process will take some time, and we will also incur a penalty due to my father's incomplete understanding of how his life insurance policy payout should have been handled. We have spent thousands of dollars already on furniture, deposits, home health care, and the first month's payment for the memory care facility. We are hoping to raise enough money to cover the memory care facility for October. Any money raised beyond the amount needed for the facility will go toward any additional out-of-pocket expenses for the facility, and then reimbursing us for the expenses we have already incurred.

Teresa has been an amazing mother, wife, and friend, and we want desperately to do right by her, and to be able to care for her in the best way possible through this transition.
