#MemoriesForMark has been set up to help fund as many wonderful memories as we can for Mark Gleinser, my incredible husband of almost 37 years, a loving father of three and a proud grandfather of three whose life journey has been derailed by Dementia.
Dementia... The thief that steals memories and thoughts, bit by bit, from the minds of those we love and care so deeply about. Our 'life picture' has been completely changed by this diagnosis in early 2016. There is no cure, no way to reverse the symptoms, and no way to recover what will be persistently and relentlessly taken away. Today Mark is the best that he will be! Mark lost his father to Alzheimer’s just 5 years after diagnosis.
We have a very long journey ahead of us, and we are facing it head on, together, with much love and respect, so thankful for the loving support of our family and friends.
We don't know God's plan or timeline for us. We want to share and create as many wonderful experiences for Mark as we can, while he can enjoy them. I want each day to be special, as time is of the essence!
The 'down and dirty' is that our savings have been dissolved by hospitalizations, medical & prescription expenses, etc. Legal documents alone (will, medical power of attorney, etc.) will cost $700-$1000. I will do everything possible for us to keep our home long enough so that Mark will never have to move from the home, the view, the environment he loves so much, and helped to build 17 years ago, on the land he chose for us over 30 years ago. I mention these things to give some idea of why I'm asking for help to create Memories for Mark!
There are things he wants to do and experience, and places he wants to go. Many of his long-time dreams and plans on how he would spend his retirement years will never happen now, but together we can provide little things, here and there, that will mean so much!
It's hard to ask for help, but through my Dementia Caregivers Support Groups I'm learning that the clock is ticking, so I'll do whatever it takes to make the time Mark has left here with us the very best that it can be!
We appreciate any gift to help us in this endeavor. This GoFundMe asks us to set a financial goal. The thing is that our needs are ongoing, and will only increase as time goes by. Mark will be 64 in March, and will soon have to rely on Medicare. Our income will be drastically cut at that time, and his medical needs will increase as his disease progresses. We are standing in faith that God will provide and holding on to the Truth that we will never be given more than we can handle. We are chosen, we are powerful, and will do everything we can for our love of Mark.
Please keep us in your prayers. Right now we have good days, even great days and then also challenging days. I will update this post every now and then to let y'all know how Mark is doing. Thanks to everyone in advance for your prayers and your kindness!
