Memorial window - Brian and Jennifer Nicholls
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Josie and I'm fundraising a stained glass window in memorial for my parents Reverend Brian Nichols and Jennifer Nicholls.
Family friends and the community of Broken Hill have donated money to pay for a Memorial Stained Glass window to go into Wesley Uniting Church, Broken Hill.
Brian preached, married couples, conducted funerals and baptisms locally for 44 years. Both Brian and Jenny were born in sea-side towns in South Australia. (Brian in Ceduna and Jenny in Port Lincoln). But they both decided to have their ashes scattered out in Stephen's Creek. Brian painted sea scapes and Jenny sketched and coloured in sea scapes. But the red dust got into their veins and out of admiration and respect for this outback they grew to love, their ashes were scattered here. Therefore there is no headstone or grave for future generations to visit.
Brian will always be remembered as being the first Director of Broken Hill Lifeline from 1966. He was highlghly regarded worldwide and visited Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Centre and Telecentres in Canada only ever to improve services here in Broken Hill. He had such a passion that he worried his family when he said 'he would do almost anything to raise money for Lifeline' and Gary Radford nearly made him run naked down Argent Street... for the right donation.. thank goodness it was never quite enough ..
He had a great sense of humour, and that and having a smoke or a beer with someone often helped put people at ease, to then chat through problems. Or calm down at a wedding. Jenny played the piano and organ many church weddings and Sunday services and also played at North School assemblies for many years. She loved music and was in the Philharmonic Choir for many decades.
Many people and groups have been very generous but before the window can be fitted it must be totally paid for. 50% of the total cost has been paid, but I'm now seeking the remainder.
If anyone can help towards the cost it would be greatly appreciated.
