Memorial site for Eli Weinstock
Donation protected
Eli Weinstock was a creative, compassionate, inquisitive young man who liked to do things his own way. He passed away suddenly on March 3, 2021, far too soon and far too young. In his twenty years on this earth he impacted more people, had more friends, and experienced more than many people do in a lifetime.
Eli was a sophomore at American University studying marketing and communication and was making plans for an internship this summer. He had a deep compassion for helping and connecting with people, especially those that seemed like they were un-connected. This connection was seen profoundly in his recent internship at a preschool room of a Spanish-speaking community center in Washington D.C., as well as in his role as a Madrichim at Temple Israel, his family's local temple where he won Madrichim of the Year.
Eli loved his family more than all else. As one of four siblings, and second in line, he was both protective and instigator in riling everyone up. The word his parents often used to describe Eli was irreverent, and he really was, in the best possible way. His love for his parents had no bounds and between the training and commitment he made with his mom to ride 100 miles for Pelotonia, and the trip he took with his dad backpacking through the Tetons showed how much that one-on-one time mattered, and doing something where he needed to push himself.
Eli was a unique, one-of-a kind soul, with a very bright future ahead of him. The void he is leaving in so many people's hearts is massive. To keep his memory alive in a way that was fitting to the kind of person he was, we want to commemorate him in a place that has deep meaning to both Eli and his whole extended family.
We have chosen the Chautauqua Institute in New York, a non-profit education center and summer resort for adults and youths, as a perfect spot for a bench that will bear Eli's name and a tree that will shade, comfort, and protect the site set for Eli. The Weinstocks have been spending time in this special place for almost twenty years. It was one of Eli's favorite places.
We ask for a donation of any size to help make this memorial site for Eli possible. The cost of the bench (which includes ground prep, a cement base, the bench itself, and a name plate honoring Eli) is $15,000 and the tree is $1000. We know there are so many people out there who love Eli, the entire Weinstock family, and want a way to share in honoring Eli.
