Memorial Services for Gabriela-Asres Yesuneh

Donation protected
My loving mother Gabriela Asres- Yesuneh has left this world too soon. Being an only child of Deaf parents (OCODA), my mom gave me many lifetimes of lessons and values. As a single mom, she did not go down the easiest road in life. She selflessly sacrificed who she was for me. From language deprivation, immigrating to America, and being sick for 15 years of her life, I always saw the determination, strength, and faith to create breakthroughs. I am mourning her loss, as I am also reflecting on her beautiful life. My mom found love in life through her journey of difficulties. She experienced all the “isms,” and inequality one could experience in several lifetimes. Yet she would rise with faith in Jesus in her heart.

Integrity is what defined her and staying true to who she was. She is one of the strongest, resilient, compassionate people I know. She is my favorite story and greatest hero. We carried a bond that was unbreakable and together we shared our own world. I like to think she is smiling and singing “Oceans” by Hillsong in ASL to me …. “My soul will rest in your embrace. I am yours and you are mine.”

This is my first time creating a Go Fund Me, at the urging of my friends who believe that being able to honor my mom with a proper funeral. A peaceful place for me to visit her when I want to talk with her. I am not one to ask for anything especially when it comes to support. Funds donated would be used to pay for funeral, burial, and grave site expenses.

I would like to take the time to rebuild my strength and my spirit so I can live the values my mom so tenderly placed in me and centered her life around. Funeral expense donations are greatly appreciated and if possible after funeral expenses are covered, I will use this money to pay bills as I go through a much-needed mourning process. In honor of my mother's dream to enchant the lives of Deaf children and early language acquisition 20% of the total donations will be donated to Deaf children at the Co-Action Preschool for the Deaf managed under Ethiopian National Association of the Deaf (ENAD).
