Hello everyone,
My name is Hannah Hoyle McDonald, daughter of the late Jane Hoyle, BS, RN, CCRN, and goddaughter of the remarkable educator, Joanne McGlynn.
Jane (age 60) passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2025, and Joanne (age 70) passed on October 25, 2024. Though the grief is deep, our family and friends find comfort in the thought that they are together again - laughing and reminiscing.
Both Jane and Joanne dedicated their lives to serving others - Jane in the field of nursing, and Joanne in education. In honor of their lifelong passion and excellence, we are creating an annual scholarship for Tiverton High School seniors. While we’re still finalizing the official details, we’ve set up this GoFundMe page for anyone who feels moved to contribute in the meantime.
Two scholarships will be awarded each year:
1. The Joanne McGlynn Memorial Scholarship for Education
This will support a graduating THS senior pursuing a degree in education. Joanne’s own academic journey began at Holy Ghost School and Tiverton High School, where she made history as the school’s first female class president. Joanne continued her education at Providence College, studied abroad in Switzerland, and graduated magna cum laude. She later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University. Her teaching career flourished at Londonderry and Concord High Schools in New Hampshire, where she also served as Assistant Principal. Joanne brought her classrooms to life - taking students to Mexico to immerse in culture and language, teaching media literacy, and hosting presidential candidates during national primaries at Concord High, making the school a famed stop on the campaign trail, and routinely making national news.
2. The Jane Hoyle Memorial Scholarship for Nursing
This will support a graduating THS senior pursuing a degree in nursing. Jane, a proud 1982 Tiverton High School graduate, followed in the footsteps of her mother, Annette McGlynn, RN. She earned her associate’s degree from Newport Hospital School of Nursing in 1986 and later a bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University. Jane devoted nearly four decades to St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, MA, rising to become a respected Clinical Leader in the Intensive Care Unit. In 2008, she became the first recipient of the prestigious Nurse of Distinction award. Her colleagues admired her for her exceptional skill, quiet leadership, and unwavering commitment to compassionate care.
Information on how to apply for the Spring 2026 scholarship season will be announced via Tiverton High School's scholarship directory once the date is closer.
This scholarship is our way of continuing Jane and Joanne’s legacies - supporting young people who share their values, ambition, and desire to make a difference. Thank you in advance for your consideration and attention.
With gratitude,
The Hoyle and McGlynn families
