Spike, the Belgian Malinois, served with the Burbank Police Department for two years and quickly became an irreplaceable part of the team. At just four years old, Spike was tragically killed in the line of duty on November 22, during a traffic stop off the 5 Freeway on Buena Vista Street. He was shot while courageously protecting officers and the community, making the ultimate sacrifice. Despite wearing a special bulletproof vest, Spike’s injuries were too severe, and he passed away after being rushed to an emergency veterinarian. His loss has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of his handler, Officer Salas, Chief Rafael Quinter, and everyone who knew him. Spike was more than just a police dog—he was a beloved family member, a loyal partner, and a symbol of courage for the entire Burbank community. In the days following his passing, community members and police officers came together for a procession and memorial service to honor and say goodbye to their beloved K9. The outpouring of support has shown just how much Spike meant to everyone he protected. We are raising funds to create a memorial statue in Spike’s honor. The funds will go directly toward a memorialized painting, ensuring that Spike’s bravery and dedication are remembered for generations to come. Please help us honor Spike’s memory and legacy by supporting this memorial. Your contribution will ensure his story lives on and that his sacrifice is never forgotten.
