Memorial Painting for Dan Larson
Donation protected
A group of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (NRES) students are holding a fundraiser to cover the costs of a large commissioned painting to be hung on campus at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).
The painting is being commissioned in memory of our much-loved friend, fish aficionado and fellow NRES graduate student, Dan Larson, who tragically passed away fall 2020. Dan studied rainbow trout and kokanee, and so the painting will incorporate these species.
Painted by local Indigenous artist Carla Joseph, the commissioned piece will be displayed in the rotunda near Dan's office.
Examples of Carla Joseph's work:
The artwork will feature river trout-speaking to Dan's enthusiasm and dedication to the environment, and a symbol of connection and the continuous presence of his energy and spirit. We hope that this piece will offer past, present, and future faculty, students, and community to take a moment to learn from and appreciate Dan's incredible lifeforce and contributions and will ensure that he may be honoured in and continue to inspire the Prince George community.
Costs include:
-Artist commission to paint a large piece (40x70")
-Cost of canvas
-Museum-quality framing
-Plaque
We are reaching out for donations for this project as currently, costs are coming out of the pockets of students. Any donations that go past the goal will be donated to a cause close to Dan.
Suggested donation:
$5-50 for students
$50-100 for faculty
$150+ for university administrators
Any donation is greatly appreciated!
