Jonah William Tovar was a quiet, solitary, young person. Those close to him knew him as a loving son, honor-bound brother, a husband always trying to be better than the world allowed him to be, and a gentle and protective father. A beautiful soul in all.
Those who did not know Jonah well could at least tell that Jonah was an anomaly among others his age—rarely looking at a cell phone, always feeling the gravity of existence, often sitting or wandering deep in silent thought.
A story about Jonah: On a sunny day, in the middle of a bustling city, Jonah once slipped away from family and friends to take a seat on the sidewalk and converse with a homeless man. When Jonah’s group realized he had wandered off, they looked around to eventually witness Jonah with the homeless man, the grateful smile on the homeless man’s face, how that humanity was acknowledged by and mirrored within Jonah. This was the rare kindness Jonah harbored and demonstrated with ease, through every day.
He was loved by many, likely more than he realized.
Jonah left this earth, just before dawn, on the crisp Spring morning of Monday, March 25, 2019. He was 23 years young. In the wake of this unexpected tragedy are his wife, JaimieLou, his 3-year-old son, Leo, and his 1-year-old daughter, Freya. Jonah is also survived by his father Rene and step-mother Reema, his mother Amy, and his siblings, Nikholas, Austin, and Ashley.
