Memorial Headstone for Damien Lopez

Hey, my name is Jamie and my late son, Damien Lopez, a member of the transgender LGBTQ community, died by suicide at 12 years old in our home on March 5, 2021. It has come to the point in my grief process that I need to move forward with a proper headstone at the cemetery for my precious, sweet, kind-hearted child. I am currently experiencing quite a few family problems which are not allowing me to give my son a proper grave site for which he more than deserves. I first need to disinter his ashes from my family's plot, as the owner of the plot is not allotting permission for me to make any changes to the headstone. I have also recently been devestated to learn of their transphobic ways & views. Due to the complete and total disrespect and disregard for my sons' eternal resting place, and the fact that those family members immediate to the plots' owner, outwardly refused to attend his wake or funeral. Can you imagine..your own family not showing respect to your CHILD bc they dnt agree with HIS FEELINGS & HOW HE CHOOSES TO LIVE? I dnt see where that should play any kind of role in the decision to attend the wake of a 12 year old. I feel it's only right that my son have a resting place of PEACE, DIGNITY, & RESPECT, which I feel he does not have at the present time. The unfortunate problem that comes along with that is, I am not financially stable or in such a position to make that substantial purchase (plot & headstone) at this time. As little as that makes me feel, I believe it's necessary at this point to implement such a platform like gofundme to afford what my son deserves to be honored with, and that is the beautiful headstone pictured above. I pray that the community of people that this reaches, finds it in their hearts to donate to my cause so that I can memorialize my son befittingly, getting him out of the plot he's in, as I feel extremely disturbed and regretful that I placed him there in the first place, without the knowledge I have now regarding the owner of the plot (my uncle). Often times "family" is not blood related. The ones you would least expect it from are the ones who end up caring the most and show the deserved respect that your blood relatives have not. I have learned that from my prior post on Citizens of Bloomfield Facebook page where I made some of Damien's story public, that his story touched the hearts of many and made it pretty far into the Northern New Jersey area. I am very humbly asking the audience that this reaches, to find it in their hearts to donate. I feel so shameful to make this gofundme..but I feel I have not a single other option to afford what Damien deserves. He was my BEST FRIEND, my BEST BEST BEST FRIEND...HE WAS MY EVERYTHING!
