Memorial Garden for Buffalo Mass Shooting

On May 14th, 2022, a horrific, devastating act of white supremacy and domestic terrorism rang through Buffalo's East side. Ten people lost their lives that day and three more were injured. For those who don't know, Tops is very much a staple in this predominantly black community and is frequented by everyone in the neighborhood. This Tops is iconic for several reasons but the biggest was this this store represented the end of the food desert that plagued Buffalo's East Side for decades.

 

We are looking to create a memorial garden to honor the lives lost and to give the community a place to grieve this horrific tragedy.

 

Gardeness Inc. is a native, restorative, gardening company and the CEO, Emere Nieves, and the President, Breanna Garcia-Ladiana, are both products of Buffalo's East side. Both grew up around the corner from Tops and their parents still frequent this store often. This senseless act hit very close to home. This is why we are fighting so hard to advocate for this memorial garden to honor not only the lives lost but to honor the community at large that will be left to mourn in the wake of such senseless violence.

 

This GoFundMe Campaign will serve to cover the costs for the memorial garden (for supplies, labor, etc).
