Memorial Funds for Duane Ranney
Donation protected
Hi friends, we are raising funds on behalf of Ruthy Woodring to cover the cremation/memorial expenses for her special friend, Duane Ranney, who passed away on October 24, 2023. You can find his obituary, which she wrote, here.

Duane was a very active member of the community and in addition to being a member of the Pedal People, Duane started Cans 4 Cancer, which assists the elderly and low income people with unexpected costs associated with cancer, and supports non-profits that help these individuals. That is how we at the Cancer Connection came to know Duane who would stop by every few weeks to make a donation to our non-profit, with money he had raised collecting can's at the recycling center.
For a wonderful story on Duane and Can's for Cancer, see this article about him in the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
In addition to his work with Cans 4 Cancer, Duane planted trees with Tree Northampton, maintained the rail-trail with Friends of Northampton Trails, delivered food by bike with Northampton Food Rescue, fixed bikes at the Bike Lab, and played a music show on Valley Free Radio, "My Generation" with Duane "the Dog" Ranney. Duane was a generous and beloved member of our community and will be sorely missed.

This photo shows Duane hand pollinating a plum tree he planted at Cahill.
As the person closest to him when he passed, Ruthy has incurred considerable expenses (cremation, the obituary, etc.) and we are hoping to help raise funds to cover these expenses.
There will be a memorial event to remember Duane on Sunday, Nov 12th, at noon at Veteran's Field in Northampton--all are welcome to attend.
