In Loving Memory William Frestan - COVID-19 Victim

Donation protected
Guillermo "William/Willy" Frestan is among the many victims of the COVID-19 in New York City. He passed away suddenly March 28th, 2020 alone in his Bronx, NY apartment. Frestan was a very proud long time Laborer Union Member - he spent his career in the Local 29 Blasters and Drill-runners Union as well as the Local 731 Laborers Union. He was a long time Foreman, working on many of New York City's iconic bridges and garnishing respect among his fellow workers as well as other tradesman. He is survived by his son Carlos and two grandchildren, as well as his loving wife Ana and their three daughters: Melanie (16), Jazmin (9), and Fabiana (6) His wife and family live in Frestan’s birthplace of Nicaragua in Central America. Heartbroken, they are unable to travel to New York to mourn, say farewell, and honor his memory due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Frestan was only 51 years old when he suddenly began exhibiting symptoms of Coronavirus. Although his family encouraged him to seek medical attention, he was extremely exhausted and experiencing trouble breathing. He decided to sleep first and go to the clinic the next day. Tragically, he did not wake up, and his body was discovered in his apartment late the next afternoon. His friends and family are asking for your support of his young family who are devastated by this horrible loss.

In addition to the distressing fact that his family cannot properly grieve him in person, the process of resolving his affairs is made much more costly and complicated by the worldwide health crisis and travel restrictions. As a result, there will be a lengthy delay until Ana and the children will be able to be economically supported by the means he had arranged during his life.

Here is a message from William's wife, Ana:
"My husband William died from COVID-19. His absence has left an immense sadness in our lives. I am so sad that I will never be able to see my husband again, and most of all I am devastated that we were not able to realize our dreams because he was stolen away so soon by this illness. Please, stay at home. Do everything you can to protect yourself, your family, and your community from the coronavirus. This virus is real and is a serious disease and can be absolutely devastating."

We are asking for your help to support this family during this interim period. The economic situation in Nicaragua is dire, and made even more extreme today due to the Coronavirus. In addition to covering cremation and funerary expenses, all funds raised will go toward supporting the day-to-day expenses of his young children and wife - food, education, shelter, and medical.

Our thoughts and prayers are with families everywhere facing the terrible impacts of the current global health and corresponding economic crisis. We are grateful for any support you can offer to our family, as we know all of us are facing stressful conditions at this moment.
