Victor Joseph Rooney Memorial Fund
April 6, 1979 - December 9, 2021
Several people have said that Victor at his best was the best there is, and few things in this world ring so true. Fiercely loyal and dedicated to “his girls,” he worked tirelessly to take care of the people he loved. To honor that hard-working, driven, caretaker dad Vic, I am starting this fund to help Sasha, James, and Alisha through this unthinkably difficult time. Victor was always the first to step up for friends when they were having a hard time, or to mentor someone coming up. I struggled with starting this fundraiser because Vic was also very proud, but enough people have asked how they can help that it is past time to get real. Victor was one of the most generous people I’ve ever met, even when he didn’t have much. I will always think of that generosity when I am missing him the most.
If you are able to make a gift now to support Vic’s family, the money we raise will go to Sasha for life's necessities and the added cost that comes with settling a person’s estate. A heartfelt thank you to the people who have already stepped up and shown up in so many ways.
Victor was a force of nature, so it comes as no surprise that his sudden loss wreaks havoc, and untangling his estate is almost as complicated as the man himself; It’s going to be a long road. It will also come as no surprise that the women in Vic's life are wonderful and strong, but my goal is to make their journey a little easier with some financial support because that is what Victor would have done were the situation reversed.
As I write this, I can’t get his wicked laugh out of my head. He was quick to laugh, and also to tease, and to fight….and to take his f-ing shirt off. He did everything at a ten - which could be infuriating - but it could also lead to generosity, wonder, ingenuity, silliness, unreal philosophic depths, and ridiculous adventures. He was so many things; I only wish he had been a better caretaker of himself.
Whether you can give or not - thank you to everyone who loved this one-of-a-kind human who I was lucky enough to call brother.
Please share a memory or a comment below. With a life as big as Vic’s, we may run out of room on the internet.
