My heart is broken as I write this.
On April 6, 2021, God called our beautiful Josiah home after more than 8 days of being on life support due to a tragic incident. Our Josiah was such an amazing human and is loved by so many. He was funny, smart, thoughtful, a talented drummer and rapper with an extraordinary mastery of language. He loved his family especially his younger brothers and sisters, his mom and his Gramma.
Josiah made the decision years ago to become an organ and tissue donor. During his short life, it was in his nature to help others and his wish was to continue to help others in death. That was just how he was. On April 10th we learned of all the gifts that he was able to give.
*Skin Grafts-They are a lifesaving gift for burn victims, and they can also be used to aid in hernia repairs, wound closure surgeries, as well as in the reconstruction process for women that have had mastectomies due to breast cancer.
*Bone Grafts-They are transplanted into patients that have suffered a trauma, degenerative bone disease, or cancer of the bone, and prevent amputation for these patients.
*Soft Tissue Grafts-They are transplanted into patients that have suffered an injury, such as an ACL tear, and restore mobility for these patients.
*Costal Cartilage-this is the cartilage between the ribs, and is most often used in reconstructive facial surgeries for patients who have suffered a trauma.
*Saphenous Veins, and Aortoiliac Artery-They are transplanted into patients to treat Peripheral Vascular Disease, Coronary Artery Disease, and Aortic Aneurysms. They can also aid in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgeries, and can be used for hemodialysis shunts for patients in kidney failure.
*Heart for Valves-the heart valves are transplanted into adult patients with diseased or damaged heart valves, and pediatric patients born with congenital heart defects.
So our beautiful Josiah will help 30-40 people live and/or live a better quality of life. He would be so pleased and grateful.
Josiah had just turned 25 years old on March 11th of this year, and had such an amazing future in front of him. There were so many things we looked forward to him experiencing, but life and God had other plans. His passing is a huge loss to our family and he will be sorely missed.
None of us were prepared for this loss, but we would love to be able to give him a proper burial. This go fund me account was opened in order to achieve that goal. Any amount helps. We thank you for your prayers and help with laying him to rest.
