On the evening of Tuesday, March 10, 2020, Christian Nikolas Burke unexpectedly passed away in his home at the age of 27. His partner of 6+ years, Erica, found him after he suddenly collapsed while jogging on the treadmill. After repeated attempts of CPR by both Erica and medical responders, Christian was sadly pronounced dead.
Christian was a beam of happiness. He added a lightness to the room. He welcomed every person he interacted with and treated everyone with kindness. He was a genuinely good person. He lived humbly and honestly and is the last person to deserve to have his time cut short. He loved his person, Erica, and their dogs and the loving life they built together. He loved his family and his friends he missed from back home. He had an optimistic outlook on life, and a warm laugh for jokes even when they weren't always funny. Christian was a great person.
Due to the unexpected death of Christian who was in what seemed to be good health, medical examiners are continuing to look into what the underlying cause may have been.
The pain that Christian's family, friends, and loved ones are experiencing right now is immeasurable. His time was cut far too short, and seemingly randomly. It doesn't make sense. It's not fair.
During this time of loss is the absolute last time that anyone should have to worry about financial implications of losing someone they've loved. To help those who loved Christian focus on healing, this GoFundMe has been created to support some of the costs associated with this tragedy.
To give a rough estimate of costs that barely begin to cover the full extent of this loss, here are some averages for the state of Washington:
- Average cost of cremation: $1363 - $4090
- Average end of life medical expenses: $15203
- Average cost of autopsy: $3000 - $5000
This doesn't include last minute flights for family members, time taken off work, or financial implications for Erica who was living with Christian.
Please take a moment to donate what you can to help support those who were closest with such an amazing person.
Rest in peace, Christian.
