Hi everyone.

I witnessed a FCSO deputy euthanize a friendly neighborhood deer named Baboo last week. Law enforcement officers killed Baboo the deer after it reportedly knocked over a man in his Palm Coast, Florida yard on Oct. 5, 2023. Law enforcement officers from the sheriff's office roped the deer to a telephone pole in a front yard and attempted to cut its throat. The deer bled and struggled for approximately 15 minutes before a Florida Fish and Wildlife officer then mercifully shot it dead after 27 minutes of terror.
>
The FCSO's agricultural deputy, Steve Williams, arrived on scene first with a catch pole. FWC Senior Officer Kurt Harris arrived next. The FWC had jurisdiction over the case; Williams was there to assist.
>
Opinion; The officers ultimately did their job as dispatched, however they performed the task in a surprisingly inhumane way. We wish they would have relocated the deer which is against current policy. If Baboo wasn't rutting, it probably would have been of little danger to the community at large, no more than other bucks .Lots of other bucks are rutting in the C section, so it would be good advice to avoid a deer this time of year. PC has crowded wildlife into the few remaining lots adding stress to the animals.

>
My wife Susanne and I were eyewitness to the last 27 minutes of life for the terrified buck. We are raising funds for future relocation expense for other wildlife that would otherwise be put down in this Fashion. Current policy is to euthanize, so we like to use donated funds to promote better options and outcomes for tame, injured or orphaned wildlife.

Where will excess donations go to besides the memorial garden (seasonal flowers, mulch and cross and a bench) ?

Any unused funds will be donated to http://wildlifecoalition.com/

And finally we have been offered a local lot nearby to provide space to start a memorial garden on the very street where Baboo took his last breath.
