Earlier this year, my close friend Travis’s mom Susan Lee Decker passed away.  An artist, a mother, a sister, and a daughter, her passing of natural causes at age 58 came at the tail of a lifetime of love, creativity, and inspiration.  Travis has shared with me some of the countless memories he has of her, from the nursery rhyme she authored to lull him to sleep as a toddler, to his visit to her in Mexico last year where they bonded over their love of art and tacos and Blade Runner 2049.

At the time of her passing, Susan was living in Mexico without any life insurance coverage.  This has meant that the family has had to manage their grief while simultaneously navigating bureaucracies involving customs, the consulate, notaries, and intergovernmental certifications in order to bring Travis's mother back to the United States.  
 
Travis intends to pay for his mother’s memorial service in Iowa out of his own pocket. After consulting with Travis, I decided to create this GoFundMe campaign to enable his loved ones and chosen family to offer their support and help contribute to Susan's final rest.
