Roy was a dedicated family man and a passionate supporter of the Nashville Zoo. Roy Chamberlain was a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer who volunteered his expertise and specialized equipment to assist the Nashville Zoo in confirming its first clouded leopard pregnancies in the early 1990s. In addition to his landmark work Roy was a pioneer of Zoological Ultrasound: Beyond the 1992 milestone, he took the lead in introducing ultrasound technology as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for exotic animals at the Nashville Zoo. His work helped establish protocols for monitoring the reproductive health and fetal development of various endangered species without the need for high-risk sedation.

Whether he was scanning an emu or a boa constrictor, Roy was tireless in his efforts to ensure the health of the zoo’s inhabitants. His ability to diagnose conditions and assist with new arrivals made a lasting difference in wildlife conservation. We are deeply proud of the passion he shared with the zoo community.

Recently, Roy passed away. Leaving a void in our lives and in the community he loved. As we grieve his loss, we want to honor his memory in a way that reflects his passion and generosity. We are raising funds to purchase a memorial brick for Roy at the Nashville Zoo, so that his legacy can continue to inspire others and that even in his passing support the place he cared for so deeply.
