Beloved husband and father Ron Thompson passed away unexpectedly on February 12, 2020. Donna, his wife of 36 years, and his daughters Trina and Sarah were shocked by this sudden loss. This GoFundMe is to help cover funeral expenses and support Donna in her time of need.
Ron touched many lives in his 77 years. He was a servant of God and his community. He served in the army during the Vietnam War in a lab in Washington, D.C. He was an analyst for the US Forest Service for his early career. He married Donna in 1984, and together they raised two daughters, Trina and Sarah.

In recent years, Ron served five terms as a city councilor for the City of Forest Grove. His leadership with public policy was crucial for the success of several public safety projects, including the construction of the roundabouts on Highway 47.
Ron served on countless community committees. He was active with the Gideons. He served on the board of directors for Ride Connection and was a champion for the elderly, disadvantaged, and veterans in supplying low-cost transportation. He worked with Meals on Wheels, served free lunch for kids in the summer, and so much more. His presence in Forest Grove will be greatly missed.
Ron was an incredibly generous man and prioritized giving to his neighbors over saving for his family after he was gone. There would be time for that later. Since he was taken so suddenly, his family now finds themselves with funeral expenses that they are not prepared to face on their own. While she would never ask for help herself, Donna needs that same giving spirit that Ron embodied to be present in her friends and community today.
With your support, we hope to raise enough to cover Ron's memorial at Crossing Fellowship and cremation at Fuiten, Rose, and Hoyt Forest Grove Memorial Chapel. The memorial service date is to be determined. Please visit the funeral chapel website for updates on the service.
Many of us know Donna from her work at Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, where she has been teaching children about the wonders of the earth for over 15 years. Donna continues to bless the community with her joy, enthusiasm, and knowledge at the museum and hopes to continue to do so for a long time.
We have set the first tier of funding at $5000 to cover the basic funeral expenses, but with extra support we can do more. For $10,000, we can help Donna cover her bills for the next year while she finds her way on her own. For $15,000, we can help fix up their family home.
