Memorial for Rocket Ron Smith

Donation protected
On the morning of Wednesday, October 16, 2019  we lost a friend, a confidant, a brother, a beloved member of our family.  Rocket Ron Smith lost his courageous battle with a rare form of cancer.  He battled it until the end, never giving up hope for finding a cure.

What did Rocket mean to us?  How do you put such a wonderful, unique, special person into a paragraph? You simply can't.  Impossible.  We've heard from people far and wide since his passing.  To a person, he was the first to greet you, to make you feel welcome, to open his arms so you didn't feel alone.  He made you laugh.  He made you think.  He wanted you to know that you weren't alone.  And if you were lucky enough to become friends with him, his loyalty knew no bounds.  He stood by his friends as if they were family because, to Rocket, you WERE his family.

Rocket loved the Florida Gators.  He loved comic books.  His love of horror films, the more B or C movie the better, was the thing of legend.  He had a wicked sense of humor and the most infectious laugh you've ever heard.  He was also a fantastic sounding board, always open and available to listen to whatever you wanted to say.  He was never judgmental.  He loved Heavy Metal and Billy Idol.  If you ever got a chance to hear his rendition of "White Wedding" at a karaoke bar (another passion of his), consider yourself lucky.  He was a car nut too.  He could talk about Mustangs and Chargers and other muscle cars all day.  Rocket was deep and complex and multilayered and all of that mix created, without a doubt, the single most unique and special human being any of us has ever had the privilege to know.

We're creating this fundraiser because we want to honor Rocket's spirit.  We want to come together as a group, from far and wide, to celebrate what he meant to us.  To do that, we're looking at booking a space for Friday, November 1 here in Los Angeles.  We want to use that space as a place to share stories, to laugh with memories, to cry collectively, to look at pictures and video.  Simply put?  We think Rocket deserves to be remembered by those he called "family".

We as a group (Lance Lucas, Taigne Hammock, Audrey Kerns, Brian Bradley and Matt Reed) will be in charge of the nuts and bolts of the event.  Should there be any extra funds raised by this campaign that are not needed to pay for Rocket's memorial, those funds will be donated in his name to The American Cancer Society.

Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.  And if you can't give, that's OK as well.

RIP Rocket
