Memorial for Nate Serey
Donation protected
Jody and David Serey's son Nathan died unexpectedly on August 10. There has never been an individual for whom the passage, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith," was more appropriate than Nate.
His entire life was spent dealing with the effects of being born massively premature, from cerebral palsy to learning disabilities and more. He took pride in his ability to cope and full responsibility for when he screwed up. Within that fragile, disabled body were incredible bravery and strength of will, a phenomenal intellect and a wry sense of humor that never failed.
Nate had three great loves in his life: his dog Betsy, fishing and flashlights. We suspect he developed all three from being around his grandmother, Betty Jones.
To honor and remember Nate, we are purchasing a memorial bench to be placed in a public park in Peoria, Arizona. The city will have the final decision as to its placement, but we have requested that it be either in Apache Park, where he practiced with his baseball team, or Rio Vista Community Park, near a good fishing spot.
We invite you to contribute to the fund as a way of demonstrating love and support for Jody and David in their time of grief. They loved Nate tremendously and he loved them. We will all miss him greatly.
